Koh Phangan Koh Samui

On Koh Samui you can eat every kind of food at every kind of price and nearly 24 hours a day. On the small Thai street stalls and shops, you will taste some delicious authentic traditional specialities and fantastic seafood. And in the bigger and more expensive restaurants, you will eat more sophisticated recipes in a cosier atmosphere.
You can also enjoy Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Swedish, Mexican, Indian and many more cuisines from all around the world, all of which are just amazing...
A soup or a light meal will cost you around 30 to 40 Bahts in the street, a beef steak around 250 Bahts in Chaweng or Lamai, but you will have to pay twice or three times this much in some 3 or 5 stars restaurants for a light meal.

In this page we are sharing with you some pretty special addresses of some fine places you should try, as much for the exquisite food they serve as for the friendly atmosphere they offer.

Nightlife in Koh Samui is very busy: cabaret, karaoke, bars, gogo-bars and discos… Everything is there for your enjoyment, so that you can party every night until 2.00 am...

Most of the hotels of Koh Samui have a restaurant serving good quality food. And you'll even be able to find real gastronomic restaurants in some of the biggest resorts, which often have a high-class Chef from abroad in charge of their kitchen. But you can still go outside for dinner to taste the thousands of delicate flavors restaurants Koh Samui can offer. The choice is even harder as there are so many, so how to not make mistake and get ugly food for outrageous prices ?... That's why we propose you some fine places that did attract our attention as much because of the atmosphere as because of the quality of the food and the service.
We wish to make clear that we are totally free and absolutely not commissionned to speak about these places in this page.

Our favourite place to eat seafood there is called Chaweng Food Center, in the North of Chaweng, on the road that leads to the main road (Tesco-Lotus), where many small restaurants offer fresh seafood you can choose directly from their stalls, as well as Thai food, BBQ and Lao dishes. Right on the beach, but at the end of Chaweng North, Papillon Resort hosts Le Café des Arts, where Stéphane and Gilles, will welcome you. In addition to its broad and varied menu (with Seafood, Thai and French dishes...) the restaurant regularly organizes special events, such as seafood barbecues or Thai buffets whilst dancers perform some traditional Thai dances, making it a delightful experience for the eyes and the palate alike... And what about the famous Pizza, to eat at the table or to take away, we simply recommend you ALLO PIZZA !, a restaurant on Chaweng main road, barely in front of the post office, they serve delicious pizza. You can make your choice from their extensive menu, including the classic "Margarita" as well as interresting ones like the "white", with sausage and fresh cream (much tastier than a standard quiche) and the "oriental", with merguez (marocan spicy sausages) ! Moreover, there are two different size, small and big... When you know that the small one can feed 3 persons... We begin mouth-watering when thinking of the big... As of their name, they also have (real) quick delivery service on Chaweng and even Lamai for some orders.

Beautiful tables, nice setting for a heavenly dinner by the sea in Chaweng beach - Koh Samui.  There are plenty of places to eat a Pizza in Koh Samui, but only one reliable service of delivery: Allo Pizza.

For a more typical atmosphere, pay a visit to the Laem Din market, located behind the Reggae Pub. There are very good food stalls offering traditionnal soup in a setting that will change you from the "tourists-only" places and will make you feel like your in Thailand for real !
On the Soï leading the laem din Market to Chaweng beach road, you will find the Swiss Restaurant, you can not mis the swiss flag lightbox. They serve delicious swiss dishes, like "raclette" or "rosties" as well as gorgeous Beef steaks from Thaïland or South America, of course, standard Thai food is alos on the menu.

Before Lamai, on the ring road coming from Chaweng, several new restaurants have opened their doors these last years. We recommend there The Cliff, the most famous restaurant in the area. They serve absolutely gorgeous Thai and western cuisine, with a stunning seaview in a modern setting. On Week-end, a DJ comes to play live session in the Lounge area. At the top North end of the beach, Banana leaf offers a vast choice of Tapas and seafood in a pleasant setting. In Town, right next to the Bauhaus, the Salathai restaurant (they also have a branch in Chaweng) serves excellent thai food with international classics too, like their stunning sole or mouth-watering chocolate mousse. The setting is very pleasant and it is full every night, a proof of good quality. If you prefer a cosier and more luxurious environment, with the prices according, you can try the Rocky's, located at the Rocky Resort, you'll have your dinner in a magnificent setting with refined cuisine or try The Patio, at Pavillion Resort, it is in sublimely mediteranean style, but cheaper than the previous, they have italian and thai cuisine. Apart all these restaurants, there are also many food stalls around and especially in the night food market, offering various dishes including stunning seafood fresh from the day, to enjoy simply sitting on plastic chairs on the walkside, while drinking a fresh fruit juice from the neighbouring stall....

Luxurious environment for this restaurant, like Koh Samui can offer a lot.  Dinner or lunch on board of a junk boat overlooking Koh Samui, definetly not junk food.

In MAE NAM, restaurants are far less numerous than in Chaweng or Lamai, many travellers there just stay in their bungalows or big resorts and enjoy their delicious food. On the main road, the most famous address of all for breakfast or any other time of the day sweeties, is Angela's Bakery, she prepares here breads and pastries since 10 years, and ask around, her club sandwich is a legend among long terms travellers ! Just a few meters away, Pane e Vino is, as you can expect from its name, an italian restaurant, where you'll enjoy the classic pastas and pizza, but also home made bruscetta and bread, all washed down with italian wine.
In BOPHUT, the most famous place to go out for dinner is, of course, the Fisherman's village. it's a group of narrow streets, including an amazing sea front, hosting many small restaurants all as pleasant and good. La Provencale, as an example, serves delicious french bakery and french cuisine. Just by the sea, with a stunning view on Koh Phangan, you'll find La sirène, where a friendly french-thai team will make everything possible to make your dinner pleasant, serving quality food in a very nice setting. Not If you like to have some bakeries or snacks, head for the French Bakery, opposite the 7-eleven, where you will be able to enjoy delicious french bakeries and pastries as well as "bistrot snacks".
In BIG BUDDHA (Bangrak), on the road along the beach, seaside, The Elephant & Castle makes excellent "Full English Breakfast" as well as typical british dishes. Try their famous "Sunday Roast", nobody has been disappointed as yet. Few meters further, on the other side of the road, Papa Joe, a very long time running restaurant with its blue lightbox, offers Swiss specialities and Thai food, everything is delicious and refined and served by pretty hostess. A little bit further, on the same side, just before Big Buddha Pier, Le Café de France a traditional french restaurant offers an amazing cuisine, everything is of very high quality, home made with fresh products. The french chef really succeed in preparing some of the most refined french dishes you will find on Koh Samui.

Night life on Koh Samui is very diversified. After an enjoyable meal in one of the numerous restaurants, you’ll have plenty of choice to carry on for the night. If you want to spend a peaceful evening you can try out one of the pubs.

The Islander, The Chrystie's Sport Bar, the Irish Embassy and the Tropical's Murphy are just few of the many English & Irish Pubs, all equipped with pool tables and darts... If you fancy some live music then head for Coco Blues Bar, with quality live performances, the Springer Pub, south Chaweng, organises every night concerts as well. The Martin Bar & Snacks have a very pleasant "French Cafe" atmosphere and Fernando, the very helpful owner, speaks almost all languages. He can arrange nearly anything for you (motorcycle and car hiring, house rentals, tours in and around the island, Thai boxing, tailors, etc.). The main English, German and French 1st league football matches are shown live on two big screen TVs.
On the first floor, there's an air-con room with a free pool table where you can spend an enjoyable evening with friends, away from the noise and the heat of busy Chaweng. Around the Reggae Pub and the Green Mango, there are many beer bars, where you can play pool for free or have a laugh with the ladies working there. In some of the bars the music can be loud, but if you're in good spirits and find yourself a good bar in which to hang out, this can be a nice way to spend a few hours before going to a disco or to stay for the entire night. Another thing you can do to hang out before the discos open is to stop by in a Cabaret. The extravagant costumes and the glamorous performers will make this funny moment a wonderful memory to hold. Check Christy's Cabaret on Chaweng Beach Road. They have a good quality show starting at 11.00 pm and a very relaxed atmosphere. Beware, you could have a hard time believing all these beautiful girls are in fact lady-boys...

Have a beer, have a pool and make friends, french style, straight in Chaweng - Koh Samui !  Bars, beer bars and bars again, chaweng beach by night.  Bars, beer bars and bars again, chaweng beach by night.

There are many discos in Chaweng for your entertainment. They are open until 2.00 a.m. If you’re lucky, you may even find some "afters" (usually at the Solo Club or The Sound) but they are quite rare and you’ll have to open your ears or search for a flyer, as these parties are illegal and may be closed down by the police...
The most fashionable clubs in Chaweng are the Reggae Pub, Where DJ Sergio plays traditional and brand new anthems, mixing up Hip Hop, Drum & Bass and some Techno; the Green Mango, more specialized in techno music, and many other small bars around such as the Sweet and Soul that play rock classics and dance music. Not far from the green Mango, The Mint Bar also offers quality evenings, especially when western Djs are invited to play. And finally, the Chaweng Lake View organizes Parties, like the Black Moon party every month.

Near the Boxing Stadium, there are many beer bars, like in Chaweng, where you can play pool for free or have a laugh with the ladies working there. And Lamai also have vivid disco like chaweng's, the most famous is the Bauhaus, but if you're a techno freak you can try the Super Sub or the club just next to it, as they play real good tunes.

:-) :-P

Night life there is limited to restaurants and a few bars where you can play pool whilst sipping an alcoholic beverage, dreaming of a better world... The Frog & Gecko Pub is a very popular place among others, you'll find it in the Fisherman's village in Bophut. For some live music, head to BangRak, to the Billabong Sports Club and enjoy their Aussie atmosphere.

Koh Phangan parties, well, don´t just dream of them, come on and be part of them, it just takes 1 hour maximum to go to phangan by slow boat (15 minutes with speed boats)... For the full moon, Black moon and Half moon parties many travellers make the trip from Koh Samui and take their chance to discover the island. For any informations about the crazy nights of Koh Phangan, please check our special page on Koh Phangan Parties.
