Introduction
Dengue fever and chikungunya are two mosquito-borne diseases that pose significant health risks in tropical regions, particularly in Southeast Asia. In an effort to reduce the incidence of these diseases and improve public health, the Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital in Mae Nam, Koh Samui, Surat Thani, launched a comprehensive prevention and control campaign in 2013.
Opening Ceremony and Campaign Objectives
On July 7, 2013, Mr. Niwet Saksri, the hospital director, presided over the opening ceremony of the Dengue Fever and Chikungunya Disease Prevention and Control Campaign. The primary goal of the campaign is to reduce the incidence of dengue fever in the area through the following strategies:
- Promoting cooperation between local communities and organizations to establish a united front against these diseases.
- Continuous control and prevention efforts to reduce the chances of dengue fever outbreaks.
- Reducing the prevalence of Aedes mosquito larvae by implementing effective mosquito control measures.
- Educating the public about the importance of maintaining a clean environment to prevent mosquito breeding grounds.
Collaborative Efforts and Funding
The campaign was developed by the Mae Nam Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) for groups 1-6. The SAO sought financial support and equipment from the Koh Samui Municipal Health Insurance Fund to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
The campaign targeted 500 households in the area, emphasizing the importance of community participation and joint efforts to create a healthier living environment for all.
