Launching the Project
On August 10, 2023, at 09:00 a.m., Koh Samui School held a ceremony to launch the G.S. Know the Law, Fight Against Drug Hazards project. School director Mr. Banyat Poolphon presided over the event, which was attended by teachers, students, police officers, municipal officials, and representatives from the Department of Public Health and Environment.
The Growing Problem of Drug Abuse
Drug problems in Thailand have been intensifying, affecting various aspects of national development such as economy, society, and environment, as well as politics and national stability. The situation has worsened since the declaration of war on drugs, particularly among children and adolescents. This has had a ripple effect on families, schools, communities, and society at large.
Young people are considered a high-risk group in need of care, support, and life skills education. This helps them lead a normal, happy life without falling prey to dangerous drugs that can harm not only themselves but also others and society as a whole. The goal is to equip them with the tools needed to protect themselves from drug-related problems and to become responsible, quality citizens in the future.
Training and Education Initiatives
Recognizing the need for a comprehensive approach, the Health Insurance Fund and Koh Samui Municipality have joined forces to support training projects designed to educate students about drugs and their associated problems. These programs aim to help young people gain knowledge and understanding of the dangers and consequences of drug abuse.
The organizers believe that everyone in society should play a role in addressing this issue. Relying solely on the police or government agencies to tackle the problem is not enough and could lead to an even more severe drug epidemic.
Working Towards a Happy and Peaceful Society
The ultimate goal of the G.S. Know the Law, Fight Against Drug Hazards project is to help Thai society progress towards a peaceful and happy existence, where individuals can live harmoniously together. By creating young leaders equipped with the knowledge and understanding necessary to prevent and solve drug problems, the project aims to pave the way for a brighter future for the nation.
