Mrs. Jutarat Ruangchai, Deputy Director of Ban Ang Thong School, presided over the opening ceremony of the Lice Elimination Project. Participants included officials from Ang Thong Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, the Health Insurance Fund Committee, teachers, students, and municipal staff from the public health and environment units.
The Importance of Personal Hygiene and Head Cleanliness
Maintaining personal hygiene is crucial for school-aged children. Among various hygiene aspects, head cleanliness is particularly important to prevent lice infestations. Lice are small wingless insects that infest the scalp, bite, and suck blood for nourishment. These pests thrive on unclean heads and often spread among primary school students, causing discomfort, lack of concentration in learning, and social stigma.
Tackling Lice Infestations in Schools
Students with lice usually have improper personal hygiene practices. While lice infestations can be easily treated by maintaining regular head cleanliness, they can easily spread among students and family members. Therefore, understanding how to solve the problem and break the cycle of infestation in schools is essential.
The Health Insurance Fund and Koh Samui Municipality Support
Recognizing the importance of addressing this issue, the Health Insurance Fund and Koh Samui Municipality have supported the implementation of the Lice Elimination Project. The project aims to raise awareness among 60 targeted students about the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and eliminating lice.
Encouraging Proper Hair and Scalp Care
The project encourages students to take proper and serious care of hair and scalp cleanliness, controlling and preventing lice infestations. By doing so, it promotes students’ overall well-being and fosters a positive personal appearance, contributing to a healthier and more focused learning environment.
