The owners of the recently exploded fireworks warehouse in Narathiwat, Sompong Nakul and Piyanuch Peungwirawat, have been confirmed to be hiding in Malaysia. The couple’s business is allegedly connected to influential figures in the southern Thai province. According to Narathiwat police chief Pol Maj Gen Anurut Imarb, the two individuals have not contacted the authorities to turn themselves in.
On Wednesday, police issued arrest warrants for the owners of a fireworks warehouse in Narathiwat that exploded on Saturday. The blast in tambon Muno of Sungai Kolok district resulted in 12 fatalities, 121 injuries, and damage to 292 houses. The owners, Sompong Nakul and his wife Piyanuch Peungwirawat, failed to report for questioning on Tuesday.
