Princess Siripajutaphan Inaugurates Local Art and Cultural Learning Center
Her Royal Highness Princess Siripajutaphan recently visited Wat Samret, located in Maret Sub-district, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province. On May 19, 2023, at 19:26, she presided over the opening ceremony of a local art and cultural learning center on Koh Samui Island.
Preserving and Showcasing Local Traditional Art
During her visit, the Princess performed the consecration of Buddha statues that exhibit local traditional art from the Thonburi period. She also consecrated Manathat Banphot, an ancient stone scripture teaching tool. These efforts aim to preserve, develop, and pass on the cultural heritage, creating a monument representing local love and community pride.
Inside Wat Samret, visitors can find collections of art objects, Buddha statues, Sala Paka, gold ornaments, ceremonial bowls, and utensils that symbolize local intellectual heritage. Moreover, historical documents related to royal visits to Wat Samret by His Majesty King Chulalongkorn during the Buddhist Era 2431 showcase the long history guiding the community towards youth and interested individuals.
Expressions of Gratitude and High-Level Attendance
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watanarattana Ratthaprom, representing the university president of Surat Thani Rajabhat University, expressed his gratitude during the event. Mr. Wichawut Jinto, the Governor of Surat Thani Province, was also present, alongside Mrs. Urusa Jinto, chairperson of the local administrative organization. Military officers, police officers, district chiefs, and related personnel attended the royal visit as well.
