Blackpink’s Lisa Visits Ayutthaya
Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban, a member of the popular South Korean girl group, Blackpink, recently visited the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. She shared photos from her trip on her Instagram account (@lalalalisa_m), which boasts 94.5 million followers. Lisa explored various ruins and temples in Ayutthaya after the Blackpink World Tour [BORN PINK] Bangkok concerts in late May.
Traditional Clothing and Local Culture
During her visit to Ayutthaya, Lisa and her friends wore traditional Thai attire, including short-sleeve blouses and indigo tie-dyed, mud-fermented woven phasin skirts. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) deputy governor for international marketing, believes that Lisa’s photos will encourage fans to visit the same locations and wear traditional clothing.
TAT Promotes Lisa’s Ayutthaya Trip
The TAT sees Lisa’s Instagram post as an opportunity to enhance Thai tourism, culture, and products. As a result, they have initiated a campaign to inform her fans about the places she visited, such as Wat Na Phra Meru, Wat Mahathat, Wat Mae Nang Pluem, and Kaow Laor Restaurant, which is featured in the Michelin Guidebook for Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
Impact on Local Economy and Businesses
Thapanee, who will assume the role of TAT governor in September, said that Lisa’s Ayutthaya trip post will positively affect the tourism industry and boost the local economy. For instance, the indigo tie-dyed woven cloth that Lisa wore during her visit is a renowned product of Udon Thani, and sales have surged since her Instagram posts. The Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) has also praised Lisa for endorsing it as a form of “soft power.”
Ayutthaya as a Must-Visit Destination
The TAT’s promotion of Lisa’s trip is expected to increase interest in Ayutthaya as a must-visit destination. With its rich history, breathtaking ruins, and vibrant culture, the ancient city offers a unique experience for both new and returning visitors. Lisa’s Instagram posts will likely inspire fans to explore this remarkable destination and immerse themselves in Thai culture while supporting local businesses and artisans.
