Koh Samui City Municipality has taken a significant leap in bolstering the language skills of its younger generation. Launching the maiden edition of the English Smart Camp, the event has marked a milestone in the region’s educational initiatives. The camp, tailored for primary school students, set the stage for an immersive language learning experience.
Inauguration of the Camp
Bright and early on the morning of June 1, 2024, the Phuket International School Samui (PBISS), located in the serene Bophut Subdistrict, welcomed a gathering of eager minds. Mr. Pakorn Kanjanopas, the Vice Mayor of Koh Samui City, was at the helm for the ceremonial commencement. His presence underscores the importance assigned to language education in the municipality’s agenda.
A Gathering for Growth
This enlightening event brought together a diverse group: directors from the municipality’s educational branches, municipal employees, dedicated teachers, and, most importantly, the students whose education they foster. Together, they embarked on a two-day journey of linguistic and cultural exploration, spanning June 1-2, 2024.
Curriculum with a Cause
What sets this camp apart is its dual focus. Not only does it aim to enhance English proficiency among the young attendees, but it also intertwines the theme of “Marine Conservation.” This creative approach aligns the desire to learn a language with the need to care for our oceans. It’s a curriculum that enlightens as much as it empowers.

The students, hailing from grades 4 to 6, were not mere passive participants. They were the central actors in a series of carefully crafted activities. Grouped according to their levels and interests, they were guided by a cadre of skilled foreign language instructors. The goal was to polish their English skills encompassing listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The English Smart Camp was more than a language workshop. It was a crucible for confidence, where students learned to articulate their thoughts and express themselves freely in English.
