Study Group’s Visit to Koh Samui
On September 14, 2023, at 09:00 am, the Koh Samui Municipality Office hosted a study group from Pa Raksar Subdistrict Municipality in the Phet Samui meeting room. The Deputy Mayor of Koh Samui, Miss Supinya Sritongkul, presided over the welcoming ceremony, accompanied by local government officials from both municipalities. The visiting delegation, led by Mrs. Aranya Suwanbutr, Mayor of Pa Raksar Subdistrict Municipality, comprised 130 people, including the President of the Municipal Council, members of the Municipal Council, Deputy Secretary of the Municipality, heads of government agencies, and officials from Koh Samui Municipality.
Objectives of the Study Group’s Visit
The main objective of the study group’s visit to Koh Samui was to learn about environmental management services in community tourism areas and limited areas with a focus on reducing community waste. This knowledge exchange aimed to enhance the potential in community administration and local development for the visitors from Pa Raksar Subdistrict Municipality.
Environmental Management in Community Tourism Areas
Koh Samui is well-known for its successful environmental management practices in community tourism areas. The study group visited various locations on the island to gain insights into waste management, sustainable tourism practices, and other environmental initiatives that have positively impacted the community.
Limited Area Waste Reduction Strategies
Another focus of the study group was to learn about waste reduction strategies in limited areas. Koh Samui has implemented several successful approaches to reducing community waste, including recycling programs, waste-to-energy projects, and community-based waste management initiatives.
Knowledge Exchange and Future Plans
The visit facilitated an exchange of learning and experiences between the two municipalities and allowed the delegation from Pa Raksar Subdistrict Municipality to gain valuable knowledge that they can apply to develop their organization and improve their officials’ performance in the future. By sharing best practices and lessons learned in environmental management, both municipalities can continue to work towards sustainable development and improved community administration across their respective regions.
