Arrests Made in a Police Raid
On the east side of Pattaya City, in Bang Lamung district, 16 Chinese nationals were apprehended during a police raid on a compound containing four houses. These individuals have been alleged as members of a phone scam gang. Additionally, a Thai maid who looked after the properties located in tambon Nong Prue was taken in for questioning.
Police Investigation and Raid
After receiving a tip-off about Chinese phone scammers occupying the premises for over three months, investigators from Provincial Police Region 2 and Chon Buri police conducted a search of the four houses at 9 am on Saturday. The houses were situated within the same fenced compound, where they found 12 Chinese men, four women, and the Thai housekeeper.
The Thai Housekeeper’s Testimony
The Thai woman, identified only as Nee, informed the police that she had been hired for 7,000 baht a month to purchase food and clean the houses. She didn’t know much about the Chinese tenants, except that they reportedly earned 10,000 yuan (48,600 baht) a month each.
Evidence Seized by Police
During the raid, the police confiscated several computers, numerous mobile phones, and a safe. They also found a new Toyota Alphard parked within the compound. All 17 individuals arrested were taken into police custody for questioning and legal action.
Security Guard’s Statement
A security guard named Phet told the police that he was unaware of the activities of the Chinese nationals because he was responsible for guarding the area outside the compound. He mentioned that most of the Chinese spent the majority of their time inside the houses.
Vehicles Found at the Scene
A Toyota Alphard was discovered inside the compound where the 16 Chinese nationals were staying. The vehicle’s presence adds further intrigue to the ongoing investigation.
