Introduction to the Futsal Coach Network Project

Futsal Youth Development

The Futsal Coach Network Project, known as “SDN FUTSAI NO-1 2026: No Drinking, No Smoking, No Drugs, No Gambling,” is an innovative initiative that seeks to address and prevent health risk factors among youth through structured sports activities. This program, competing for the Royal Trophy awarded by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, combines athletics, mentorship, and public health education to foster a safer, healthier environment for young people.

Aims and Objectives

The primary goal is to utilize futsal – a fast-paced, indoor variant of soccer – as a medium to:

  • Prevent substance abuse, including alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, among youth.
  • Discourage gambling and other risky behaviors often associated with adolescent development.
  • Promote positive lifestyle choices using sport as a preventive tool.
  • Establish a supportive network of futsal coaches who can act as mentors and advocates for healthy living.

Structure of the Project

Inclusive Skill Development

The program offers systematic futsal training sessions led by trained coaches versed in youth mentorship. These sessions include fundamental futsal skills, teamwork drills, and personal fitness routines. The focus is on accessibility, encouraging all interested youth to participate regardless of prior athletic experience.

Health and Life Skills Workshops

Parallel to sports training, educational workshops are provided to address topics such as:

  • Dangers of substance abuse (alcohol, smoking, drugs)
  • Financial consequences and risks of gambling
  • Peer pressure resistance
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution
  • Building self-confidence and self-esteem

Community Involvement

The project invites collaboration among local schools, parents, community leaders, and health professionals, creating a wide support network that reinforces the initiative’s core values both on and off the futsal court. Community events, such as futsal tournaments and family health days, help raise awareness and broaden the program’s reach.

Competition for the Royal Trophy

Participants in the program have the unique opportunity to compete for the prestigious Royal Trophy. This competition not only motivates youth to excel in sport but also recognizes teams that demonstrate outstanding commitment to the project’s behavioral pledges: abstaining from alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and gambling. The Royal Trophy, granted by The Princess Royal, elevates the status of the project and inspires a sense of pride and accomplishment among participants.

Role of the Coach Network

A network of coaches is central to the project’s success. These coaches receive specialized training that empowers them to:

  • Recognize early signs of risky behaviors
  • Provide guidance on health and wellness
  • Serve as positive role models for youth
  • Facilitate communication between youth and their families regarding health concerns

Through sharing best practices and supporting each other, coaches contribute to a sustainable, community-based approach that extends beyond a single sports season.

Partnerships and Support

The initiative is backed by Koh Samui Municipality, local public health organizations, educational institutions, and regional youth sports associations. This multi-sector partnership ensures access to resources, expertise, and continued program development. Ongoing assessment and regular feedback cycles enable the project team to adapt and refine activities to keep them relevant and effective for the community’s needs.

Promotion and Public Relations

Regular updates, public campaigns, and engagement through various media outlets help inform the broader public about program achievements and upcoming events. By sharing success stories and spotlighting youth who have benefited from the program, the initiative aims to inspire additional participation and attract further investment in youth health promotion efforts.
