On June 28, 2023, a delegation from Ko Samui, Thailand, led by Mr. Wichawut Jinto, Governor of Surat Thani Province, embarked on a visit to Tujiajin in Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China. The visit aimed at bolstering the relationship between the two cities after the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) on March 24, 2023, focusing on tourism development, cultural exchange, and promoting tourism between both cities and countries.
Panda Conservation and Breeding in Tujiajin
Tujiajin is renowned for its panda conservation and breeding center, which houses an impressive 30% of the world’s panda population. The city’s commitment to preserving these endangered species demonstrates its dedication to environmental conservation and wildlife protection.
Tujiajin’s Rich Cultural Heritage
Apart from its panda center, Tujiajin also boasts a significant world heritage site: the Tujiajin Irrigation Dam. With a history of over 2,000 years, this ancient dam stands as a testament to the city’s long-standing engineering prowess and cultural heritage.
Sister Cities: Tujiajin and Lamphun
The spirit of cooperation is not new to Tujiajin. In 2015, the city signed a friendship and cooperation agreement with the municipality of Lamphun Province, Thailand, establishing a sister city/friendship city partnership. Ever since, the two cities have consistently exchanged visits and fostered strong bonds.
