Search Efforts End as Body Recovered from Freedom Beach

The body of a missing Senegalese tourist, Cheikhonuna Ba, was found on Sunday morning after an extensive search operation. The 22-year-old had gone missing on Friday while swimming in the sea off Freedom Beach in tambon Karon, Muang district.

Timeline of Events

On Friday, Cheikhonuna Ba went swimming in the sea off Freedom Beach. Unfortunately, he went missing, prompting local authorities to initiate a search operation.

On Saturday, searchers from the Karon municipality and other agencies expanded their efforts to cover the nearby Patong Beach to the north and Karon Beach, approximately two kilometers south of Freedom Beach. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to locate him.

Finally, on Sunday morning at around 6:50 am, a team of lifeguards discovered Ba’s body at Freedom Beach, the same location where he initially went missing.

Autopsy and Closure

After the body was recovered, it was examined by police and volunteers from the Kusoltham Phuket Foundation. The body was then sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy.

The search command center, established by the Tambon Karon Municipality, has since been closed. The Municipality mayor, Lt Jadet Vachirasorn, has instructed lifeguards operating at various beaches to remain vigilant, particularly during weather disturbances, to ensure the safety of tourists.
