Launching the Initiative
On September 7, 2023, at Ban Bo Phut School in Bo Phut Subdistrict, Koh Samui District, a significant step was taken towards creating a cleaner environment and promoting the well-being of the community. Mr. Suchat Sri-insai, a Fund Committee member, presided over the opening ceremony of the Waste Separation Project at Ban Bo Phut School. Joining him were the Fund Committee, teachers, students of Ban Bo Phut School, and municipal employees from the Public Health and Environment Department.
Nurturing Environmental Awareness among Students
The key to long-term waste management solutions lies in small but meaningful steps. One of these steps involves fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness about waste disposal among students. By recognizing the importance and benefits of waste separation, students can contribute to a cleaner environment within their school and beyond.
Creating a Conducive Learning Environment
As students learn to separate and dispose of waste correctly, the school premises transform into a clean, conducive learning environment. The success achieved within the school can serve as a blueprint for further expansion to the community and the nation as a whole.
Objectives of the Project
The project has several objectives:
- Promoting students’ understanding of waste separation in the school
- Generating income from the sale of recycled materials sorted by the students themselves
- Encouraging students to reduce waste at the source through proper separation within the school
- Eliminating disease vector breeding sites in the school and community due to the accumulation of solid waste
- Creating a better environment for the school, resulting in improved public health and quality of life
Health Fund and Koh Samui Municipality Support
The Health Fund of Koh Samui Municipality recognizes the importance of this initiative and supports the implementation of the Waste Separation Project at Ban Bo Phut School. By promoting a better environment and well-being, the project delivers significant benefits to the environment, population, and ultimately, the nation.
