Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin recently embarked on a two-day visit to the southern provinces of Phuket and Phang-nga. The purpose of this visit was to engage with locals and gather opinions from the private sector to explore ways of promoting tourism in these regions.
Day 1: Engaging with the Tourism Sector in Phuket
The first day began with a meeting between Prime Minister Srettha, members of the Pheu Thai Party’s tourism policy committee, and Suvarnabhumi airport administrators. They discussed the airport’s operation issues and potential improvements.
Later, the Prime Minister and his team arrived in Phuket, where they met Phuket airport administration to discuss plans for expanding the airport’s capacity, addressing the growth in tourist arrivals.
Meeting with Private Sector Representatives
In the afternoon, Prime Minister Srettha held a meeting with members of the private sector at Ramada Plaza Chao Fah Phuket Hotel. They discussed Phuket’s development strategies and potential collaboration between government and private entities to boost tourism.
Engaging with Tourism Business Operators
Following the private sector meeting, the Pheu Thai team visited the Phuket Old Town to engage with tourism business operators, listening to their concerns, and gathering valuable insights.
Evening Engagements at Patong Beach
In the evening, Prime Minister Srettha met with business operators and tourists on Bang La road and Patong beach, discussing the limitations on the operating hours of entertainment venues along the beachfront.
Day 2: Exploring Wellness Tourism in Phang-nga
On the second day, the Prime Minister and his entourage proceeded to Khao Lak in Ta Kua Pa district of Phang-nga province. They met with tourist business operators at the Moracea by Khao Lak Resort to discuss the prospects of wellness tourism in the Andaman coastal area.
After the meeting in Phang-nga, the team returned to Phuket before heading back to Suvarnabhumi airport on a Bangkok Airways flight.
