Launching the Project

On August 31, 2023, at Theparatpittaya School, a significant event marked the beginning of a new initiative aimed at promoting sex education among the youth. Miss Pimlrat Sotarat, the Director of Theparatpittaya School, was joined by the school’s staff, students, Koh Samui Hospital personnel, municipality council members, and the Public Health and Environment Division to formally inaugurate the “Youth: Caring for Sex Education” project. This ambitious program aims to reach out to 160 students and young individuals.

The Importance of Family Institution

In today’s fast-paced world, the role of family institutions in guiding children has often been diminished. Economic pressures and busy schedules have left many parents with limited time to tend to their families’ needs. As a result, the social structure and its influence on people’s behavior have been adversely affected.

Young people from broken or dysfunctional families often face challenges in getting proper guidance and support. The lack of warmth and appropriate counseling in these families is a contributing factor towards the concerning trend of teenage pregnancy.

Addressing the Issue through Education

To combat this issue and protect the future of Thai teenagers, the National Health Security Fund and Koh Samui Municipality have joined forces to support sex education programs in schools. By providing students with access to accurate information on personal development during adolescence and responsible sexual behavior, the project aims to reduce the occurrence of early pregnancies.

The training programs not only focus on disseminating knowledge about sex education but also strive to instill a sense of self-worth and appreciation among Thai teenagers. This holistic approach empowers young people to make informed decisions, understand the consequences of their actions, and take responsibility for their well-being.

Prevention and Skills Development

A key component of the “Youth: Caring for Sex Education” project is to equip teenagers with the skills and confidence needed to resist risky behaviors that could jeopardize their future. By fostering a strong sense of pride in themselves, these young individuals can take control of their lives and steer clear of potential pitfalls.

The project’s success lies in its ability to create an environment where Thai teenagers feel supported, valued, and prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. With a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to sex education, the “Youth: Caring for Sex Education” project serves as a valuable resource for equipping the next generation with the tools needed to make responsible choices and lead fulfilling lives.
